Bowel cancer patient support

Postby Cath on Sat Sep 26, 2009 5:55 pm

To thoses fo you, like me and others who feel that there is no group for bowel cancer, there is a group of us currently in the process of setting up a bowel cancer group for NZ, for patient support, education and research.I can keep you updated on our progress. We have to get the foundations of this group set up correctly. In the meantime, lets get this forum going. I was dignosed in April 2007, and so my journey began.
I can still remember that although i had wonderful family and friends who supported me, I had no-one who could identify with me. I am remember lying in the hospital after my ooperation, and the lady in the next bed had 3 visitors to discuss her breast cancer, while I saw no-one who had bowel cancer - yet it's the biggest cancer in NZ! Anyway, hopefully this will change soon. In the meantime, if anyone in Chch or surrounding areas just wants to talk, post me a note on this forum.Cath

Thank you for your post Cath.
The cancer society does arrange telephone peer support calls for people living with cancer and care-givers.
This is called Cancer-Connect NZ.
Every cancer Connect NZ peer supporter has had a cancer, or cared for a loved one living with cancer. It is a FREE support service which provides a listening ear, practical information, and an opportunity to talk to someone whose life has been affected by cancer.
Call us on 0800CANCER(226 237) To find out how Cancer Connect NZ can put you in contact with others.

Warm wishes,
Naena Chhima
Cancer Information Nurse.
