5 yr survivor of Gde 3 Brain Tumour

Postby Linbrusco on Tue May 05, 2009 11:38 am

Hi, I am from Auckland and have 2 children 6 & 11.
My husband was diagnosed in March 2004 with a Grade 3 Anaplastic Astrocytoma (he was 41) in his left frontal/parietal lobe.
Surgery and radiation followed, which was completed June 04.
First MRI in Jan 05 since finishing radiation, showed small amount of residual tumour, so he had further surgery in March 05 followed by 7 mths of PCV chemo (Procarbazine, Vincristine & Lomustine)
He had one hospital stay for 4 days after becoming Neutropaenic (low Neutrophils to fight infection) otherwise he tolerated the PCV chemo well, and only had the one glitch with low blood counts.
Since Nov 05, my husband has had clear & stable MRI's since, which he has every 6 months.

As posted by Cancer Site nurses there is a NZ Brain Tumour Online Support Group found in the Links section on http://www.headstart.org.nz
Despite over 50 members, it doesn't get regular visitors. But if you do post, someone will reply, just not straight away. The Australian BT site has alot more traffic, and they don't mind the odd Kiwi posting if you need info or advice :-)

Just updating to add , my husband is now over 6yrs post diagnosis.
Still on anti seizure meds as a precaution, and still clear & stable MRi's.

Thanks Linbrusco for your post.

I have just joined this site. My husband has had a grade four Glioblastoma Multiforme brain tumour removed 6 weeks ago and is soon to begin Chemoradiation. Your post gives us great hope there's a few more years in him yet. Hope your husband is still well.
