lymphoma

Hi there. My boyfriend has lymphoma. We do not know what type yet as he has not had his results - he has had a biopsy and a heart scan and he has a few lumps in his neck. Everything seems to be taking forever to get done, he still has a ct-scan coming up in a couple of weeks.
Aside from this he feels ok.
So far the oncologist has said it is treatable but what I dont get is if they dont know for sure what type of lymphoma it is, how can he say that??? I think they have an idea of what type but still....how can he say its cureable?? My boyfriends cancer was bought on by medication he is on (he had a kidney transplant) so knowing he has a kidney transplant again how can the oncologist himself says its cureable? I am so confused

Im scared nervous upset you name it. I just lost my Mum to a cancer earlier this year. now this. Im doing my best to keep positive for my boyfriend.

Hi thanks for your message. It must be a really worrying time for you. I wonder if he has had any test results back yet or are you still waiting? Lots of people tell us the waiting is the very worst time. I hope he gets some answers soon and a treatment plan. Often oncologists say that lymphomas have a good outlook, are often curable as they generally respond well to treatments like chemo, radiation and the newer targeted therapies like MabThera that you may have read about. However they will also be able to give more individualised information once they know more aboput your boyfriend's particular type of lymphoma. You are really welcome to call us on the Cancer Informaiotn Helpline 0800 CANCER (226237) - we have cancer nurses on the helpline Mon-Fri 8.30am-5pm.
Best wishes, Julie, Cancer Information Nurse

Hello...
I'm new to this forum. I'm in remission with Hodgkin Lymphoma. I know where you're at with the waiting for diagnosis and all the other stuff that goes with it, there are so many sub types of Lymphoma with lots of different treatments etc. I assume by now (as I've just seen your post from November 2009) that by now he knows the sub-type, is he having treatment at the moment? How's he doing, how are you doing? I often thought, and still think, that it's every bit as tough for the loved ones watching us go through stuff as it is for us going through it (if that makes sense...)

By the way, there's another great forum specifically for blood cancers run by the Leukaemia & Blood Foundation, the address is : http://www.lifebloodlive.org.nz/, there's quite a few Lymphoma folk who talk there (including me)

Hope all is going well, look forward to hearing how things are
